What Does it Take to Live a Life You Love?

I’m back from my whirlwind speaking tour through the Midwest. The two professors with whom I’ve been having so much fun collaborating for almost three years (Drs. Byron Waller and Heather Zeng, photo attached below) and I facilitated six workshops at Governors State University near Chicago and were featured speakers at the Wisconsin Careers Conference in Madison.

Two of our presentations focused on the 21st century world of work and how dissimilar it is from the way we were always told the world and our lives would look. For example, did you know that:  [Read More]

Frustration...

The other day I heard a story on the radio as I was driving to work that really made me think. It was about Gabrielle Giffords, the Congresswoman from Arizona who continues to recover from a gunshot wound to her head. Her husband, Mark Kelly, was being interviewed about her ongoing struggle to speak. The injury has caused a great deal of disruption in her ability to use language. He said,  [Read More]

Nice to Know You!

So, six months have passed since I returned from my attempted getaway back in March (thanks for the nudge, Joe!) Honestly, at the risk of sounding trite, I just don’t know where the time goes!  [Read More]

Courage...

You may (or may not) have noticed, but Centerpoint has developed a new “tagline” or mission statement. As we were preparing our materials for the Social Innovation Fast Pitch application, we realized one of the most challenging things over the years for us has been how we describe what we do.   [Read More]

The Growth Continues with Your Help

There are so many things afoot at Centerpoint these days. (I always wanted to find a way to use the word afoot!)  :-)   [Read More]

Baggage in Tow

As all of you who read my email from several weeks ago know, I went away for a few weeks to visit my mom in North Carolina. The purpose of my trip was to get away and leave behind the stress of trying to figure out what I will do with my life now as a newly single woman, new to Seattle and needing to earn more money than I’ve ever earned in order remain in this wonderful city!  [Read More]

Even more transitions!

I’d like to take an opportunity to share a few thoughts with you about what’s been happening lately. My apologies for being out-of-touch; this past year has presented a number of both challenges and opportunities. By this time you’d think I wouldn’t be surprised at how the ‘ups’ are a natural part of the ‘downs,’ huh?

A great quote...

I just ran across this quote in an article about letting go. It seemed to fit with my prior blog so I thought I’d share it!

When we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work. And when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings.”     –Wendell Berry, Poet

Change can be really irritating...

Happiness requires an ability to tolerate uncertainty.” ~from Sixty True Things by Gordon Livingston, M.D.

Lately I’ve been noticing lots of people who seem a bit irritated about things. “Summer in Seattle only lasted about two days this year,” “It already feels like fall,” or, as my husband just said to me, “What happened to all the figs? We didn’t get a single one this summer!”  [Read More]

Change Can Be Daunting... even when we choose it

About five years ago my husband Dennis and I put in a patio in our backyard. It was part of our get rid of all the grass project. We are very proud of it since we designed it and it’s made mostly of recycled bricks and stones that we collected ourselves. It’s on the large side: about 25 feet long by 13 feet wide. For those reading this who live in Seattle, you know what happens over time to bricks.

Many things grow in the garden that were never sown there. ~Thomas Fuller, 1732

Change is Risky, and...

I had planned on writing on a regular basis about all that’s happening around Centerpoint and our big transitions. But I notice that my last blog entry was over a month ago. Just another thing to learn about big changes…they are a bit scary to even write about sometimes. Also, they keep you really, really busy!   [Read More]

Change is Exciting... Really!

Change is exciting—at least it is for me right now! If you’ve come within twenty feet of me recently you will have heard me going on and on about the big changes happening at Centerpoint. If you haven’t been around of late, then please read on so I can fill you in too!   [Read More]

Changes and Transitions

If you haven’t noticed by now, Centerpoint specializes in helping people navigate the changes and transitions in their lives. But just because we know how to help others with that, doesn’t mean we’re always great at doing it ourselves.  [Read More]

Transitions All Around!

These are exciting times for CP, its board, staff and faculty, and for all CP members. As an organization that helps people and companies negotiate change, we like to walk our talk, and while we are walking, oh how we wish we were running (more about this later)!

January 31st was my last day as President of the Board for Centerpoint (CP). I have been on the CP Board for six years, and President for three. It’s time for new energy and new ideas. Personally, I’m going to take a few months off after April, and then hopefully I’ll return to CP to work with clients on money challenges.  [Read More]

New Year's Resolutions

There’s an anonymous quote that always makes me chuckle at this time of year: “A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one Year and out the other.”

I find it easy to set out some good intentions but then don’t always follow through.  [Read More]
